What is Ego-State-Coaching & Counselling?
Ego-state-Coaching and Counselling (ESCC / EST-DE) is a hypnotherapeutical, traumasensitive method developed from the Ego-State-Therapy (Watkins & Watkins) that works with the inner parts of the client, using techniques from Milton Ericksons Hypnotherapy, .

Ego State Counseling uses hypnotherapeutical trances... Because, sometimes, we have a hard time to think or talk ourselves out of our patterns...
...some of our behaviours and feelings just seem to be out of our conscious control. In Ego-State-Coaching and Counselling we use hypnotherapeutical trances to access the the limbic system, also called the emotional brain. This way, we gain more knowledge about what is going on inside us. We can then know better, where destructive patterns come from- and we may find out, what we truly need and long for.
Ego State Counselling is embodied
Studies in recent years have shown that it is essential to involve the body in the treatment in order to bring about changes. My approach is informed by knowledge from SE (Somatic Experience) and a nervous system perspective (Polyvagal theory), which I integrate in my practise.
Ego-States means:
We have inner parts who each feel and act differently
The Ego-state perspective is based on the assumption that we humans have different parts within us. This means that within our ‘I’, our ‘whole person’, different neuronal networks are active with the aim of adapting ourselves to the respective situation. These inner parts (ego states) can be felt energetically by us and others. They form a kind of inner team within us, in which each part is a specialist in its respective field.
For example, there is probably an inner part that is particularly good at ‘taking things in hand’ in stressful situations, while another part is an expert at warning us of dangers and yet another part has fully internalised the role of teacher/doctor/artist and can activate this confidently at any time. Sometimes we consciously realise that different energies are at work within us, that we are changing from one state to another - but ever so often this also happens automatically. It can be practical, if our parts to become active at the right moment without our active consent. However, there are situations - even over a longer period of time - where we repeatedly feel powerless, experience a loss of control. We ‘automatically’ enter into dynamics that are not helpful and we then suffer from the effects in the long term. We may be blocked, even if we know in theory how we could get out of this state. But something inside us refuses to take the next step. Or we function without really being in touch with our needs. We then fail to pause and make crucial decisions for ourselves. Especially in relationships - whether in romantic relationships, with children or at work with authority figures - we often have programmes running in us that we have little control over. This always leads to the same patterns with important people in our lives, which keeps us away from healing, meaningful developments. The reason why these ‘programmes’ continue to run is that our inner parts had a good reason a long time ago to choose precisely this strategy in order to protect us from being hurt in the best possible way. Because back then, when we were younger, we didn't have the same opportunities to evade attacks and bring ourselves into safety as we do today. We therefore assume that even those parts that tend to have a destructive effect on our lives today actually still want the best for us. The ego-state approach, which comes from trauma therapy, sees the solution in getting to know your own inner parts, which operate in the unconscious, better. We, the counsellor and the client, ask the parts together what they needed so urgently back then when they were created and we consider what role they could take on today. Together we take care of each individual inner part until the client gradually gains an overview of what is going on inside them. The parts can now come into contact with each other, exchange their respective perspectives and perhaps even work through old wounds that are necessary for further development. The aim is for each part to receive the recognition it deserves and to initiate possible developments. So that one day an inner team is created that is led by the whole person, where all needs are heard and integrated. source, among others.: https://www.est-de.eu/was-ist-escc/
